Ego gets often gets a bad rep, and it’s not entirely fair. It has, after all, helped you to survive. But as Light Warriors, I think we can all agree that surviving isn’t enough. We want and yearn for more out of life. We search for that thing we are yearning for in all that we do. And so our ego helps us in this search, for our ego never wants to be left out of anything, and it creates very complex schemes to incorporate all that we think we need with all that we think we are seeking. But these grandiose plans usually turn out to be just schemes, nothing more.
Hopefully, at some point, we will have that “Aha” moment, and realize that which we are searching for can only be found when we are in full alignment with divine will. Now, let me clarify “divine will” here. When I say those words, most people automatically think I mean the will of God. They say “It’s in His hands”, and therefore they are at the whim of an outside force. But You at Source are a divine being. You are a divine expression of God. You at Source, which could also be called your Oversoul, has a divine plan for your time here on earth. Your Oversoul knows you better than you do, because you are an extension of your Oversoul. And so, your Oversoul knows exactly what you need to find fulfillment in this lifetime.
Coming into alignment with your divine will is not something that you can usually do all at once. Like awakening, it has different stages. You can be on your divine path, and come to a fork in the road. You look to the left and see before you a level field. You look to your right, and there is a steep hill. You’re not even certain how high that hill is, because you can’t see the top from where you are. What’s up there? Will you like it when you get there? You are being given a choice, stay at this comfortable level and advance no more, or power up to the next level of Light Warrior.
And this is where ego throws a temper tantrum. Up till now, we gave it full or partial control. Each time you choose to power up, your ego knows that it is loosing it’s grip of control. You are choosing the divine will, rather than the ego’s will, expressing trust in in your own higher power. So it is not uncommon for Light Warriors to be plagued by all sorts of fears when they are about to power up a level. Will this new path provide the income I need? Am I worthy? Am I capable? Will I have to do this alone? What if my family thinks I’m crazy? Am I throwing away all that I’ve worked so hard for? Have I lost my common sense?
This may make your ego sound like a self sabotaging narcissist. And if left unchecked, it is just that. And for this reason, some will say you must kill the ego. I do not agree with that. In many ways, your Oversoul could look at you the incarnate as a self sabotaging narcissist. But instead, your Oversoul smiles lovingly and shakes their head in good humor, like a parent watching their two year old in a fit of rage because their peas touched their carrots. Your Oversoul does not seek to destroy you, for your Oversoul knows that you are an essential part of them. In the same way, your ego is a part of you that simply needs to be taught patience and trust. It is because of our ego that we brush our teeth and get dressed in the morning. It is because of our ego that we put so much of our heart and soul into all that we do. An ego in balance is an ally. An out of balance ego wants to drive the car, direct traffic, and pave the roads, create new traffic laws that only apply to others, etc.
So the next time you feel the fears associated with big changes spirit has in store for you if you choose to power up, understand that your ego is expressing it’s fear of being left behind. It is a fine skill to know when spirit is flashing warnings at you, and when ego is stirring up fear. To differentiate between the two, step out of the head space, and into the heart space for your answers. We say that it is always better if the head and the heart can be in full alignment, but if you must choose, always choose with your heart.
